Chippewa Valley Fair Tax Meeting
January 20, 2010
Thank you to those who support the Fair Tax especially
- Lake Hallie Town Hall - we get to use this for free
- First Net Impressions - They designed the chippewavalleyfairtax.org website
National News
- Michael Reagan is the new national spokesperson for the national Fair Tax
- Storm the Hill in Washington D.C. On April 14 - 16, 2010. This is a Wednesday through Friday. Bob and Eric are thinking about going if we can get enough people to cover the area post offices on April 15th.
- Make sure to join the Fair Tax Nation. Look for a mailer and sign the petition online to get the Ways and Means committee to schedule a hearing on the fair tax.
Non-Profit Status
- 501c3
- Donations would be able to written off on taxes
- Letter campaign maybe considered lobbyist action. We could change the letters to stop asking our representatives/senators to support the Fair Tax
- 501c4
- Not able to write off donations
- Can keep letter campaign as is
After much discussion it was decided that we would go with the 501C4.
Our account balance at this time is $510.00. We have a deadline coming up for payment for a booth at the Northern Wis State Fair. Cost for that is $350-500.
Membership Drive
- If your spouse/family members haven't signed up in support of the Fair Tax please encourage them to do so.
- We are going to try to grow our membership by having parties based on the pampered chef/Tupperware parties. Carrie volunteered to host one to see how it goes. The plan is to invite a few family/friends to your home to discuss the Fair Tax and hopefully get them to sign up to show their support. If you want it can request a speaker to come help answer questions if needed. Kathy Nitz volunteered to design a postcard for the events. Also discussed was putting together a packet of information/outline so all parties follow the same format. Each party will be scheduled for about 1 hour.
Grassroots/Freedom riders
- the Fair Tax motorcycle will be in Eau Claire around August 14-15, 2010. We need to try and come up with ways to promote this.
- Snowmobile poker run February 20. Starting at the View on Lake Wissota. Approx 85 miles with 8 stops. Cost is $10.00 per person or $15.00 per couple. You will get 1 free raffle ticket with each paid attendee. There will also be meal at the end of the ride. All money will be split between the Fair Tax and the snowmobile club. There will also be several items raffled off. You can do the poker run by car if you do not have a snowmobile or if the weather does not permit the trails to be open.
Business sponsors
- We are still looking for business to sponsor our efforts. There are different levels of support including a revolving ad on the first page of the website or a page on the website that lists business names that support the Fair Tax for a smaller donation.
- Working on packet for business sponsor that may include a window cling door/sign that says they support the Fair Tax, a counter display for Fair Tax information.
- If you know of a business that has questions about supporting the Fair Tax have them contact Eric at the Coffee Grounds.
- If you know of a business that supports the Fair Tax encourage them to add a line at the end of radio/TV adds saying something along the line that they support the Fair Tax. Or in print ads ask them to add the Fair Tax logo in a corner of the add. There is usually minimal to no charge for the small changes of adding this information.
- We are looking for someone to create a letter that can be sent to local businesses with Fair Tax information and asking them to sponsor website.
